Recently, Jim Harp was inducted into the Thomaston-Upson Sports Hall of Fame.
Jim Harp was born and raised in the Topeka Junction area of Upson County and graduated from Yatesville High School in 1940. After a five-year hitch in the Army during World War II, he returned home where he played for Silvertown in the local textile baseball league.
In 1946 he was a member of the Thomaston Combine Semi-Pro team that was made up of players from the Silvertown and East Thomaston teams. This team went on to win the Georgia Semi-Pro State Championship and advanced to the semi-finals of the National Semi-Pro Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. [Full Story »]

FIRE DAMAGES HOUSE

This house located at 651 Jordan Brown Road was moderately damaged by fire at approximately 3:41 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. According to the fire report, Eastman firemen fought the blaze for over an hour at the vacant wood frame house. The house belongs to Bud Hardin. The house caught on fire as a result of a grass fire in the yard. The cause of the fire is believed to be arson. (Photo by Chuck Eckles)

Tournament winners
The 19th Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament was held at the Dodge County Golf Club on May 14, 2011. The Tournament and cook-out were a great success and all proceeds from the tournament will be used by the Eastman-Dodge Kiwanis Club to serve the needs of children. Pictured are the winners of the tournament who took home the cash prizes.

Bandits finish season
The Eastman-Dodge County Recreation Department 14U girls’ softball champions are the Bandits sponsored by Coleman Gifts & Framing. Made up of nine sixth graders and only one seventh grader, the Bandits finished the regular season in third place with a record of 4-5. The Bandits came in fighting during the “End of the Season” Tournament, defeating the second place team, SHE BEAST, 9-2, and then the number one team, Lady Tree Toppers, 4-2.
