Eastman police are reporting that a scam is going on in the Eastman area and one elderly Eastman resident has already been a victim and taken for $13,000.00.
According to police, an elderly Eastman woman was shopping at Fred’s on Thursday, March 24. When she was in the parking lot, she was approached by a black female who told her that she had just found a money bag containing a large amount of money as well as some bonds. Another black female approached and stated she had witnessed the first black female find the bag.
One of the black females stated that she worked for a lawyer’s office in Dublin. The victim was then told that the money would be split with her, but first, she would have to pay out her half. [Full Story »]

School board hires Hodges as new head football coach

A vote of 6-1 by the Dodge County Board of Education named Rex Hodges as athletic director and head football coach for Dodge County at a called meeting on March 22, 2011, after the resignation of current Dodge County High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Lee Campbell.
Board members Shirley Ikedionwu, Ricky Hargrove, Dee Yearty, Mark Driggers, Kim Sheffield and Chuck Parkerson voted for Hodges and Roscoe Bennett abstained his vote. [Full Story »]

Recreation department to open baseball season

The Eastman-Dodge Recreation Department will open its 2011 baseball/softball season this Friday night, April 1 with opening night ceremonies. Director Bodie Gray is proud to announce former Atlanta Brave Damian Moss will be this year’s special guest. Moss was born in Darlington, Australia and is 34 years old. Moss was drafted by the Braves on July 30, 1993 as a 16-year old.
Moss pitched in parts of the seasons from 2001-03. He made the team out of spring training for the 2002 season. His chance to go into the rotation ironically came from Greg Maddox. The sure fire first ballot hall of famer went on the disabled list and allowed Moss to go into the rotation. Damian won 12 games and only lost six with a 3.42 E.R.A. The league hit just .221 against him, which was good enough for sixth in the league. He finished fifth for the 2002 National League Rookie of the Year. [Full Story »]
