Dodge County Superintendent of Elections John Kelly is pictured above swearing

in newly elected school board members Prentice “Roscoe” Bennett, Jr., Dee Yearty

and Mark Driggers. Bennett defeated incumbent Dougie Martin and will represent District 1,

Yearty defeated incumbent Rocky Stuckey and Charles Dennis and will represent District 3

and Driggers defeated incumbent Neil Spradley and will represent District 5. They were

sworn in on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Dodge County Courthouse.

Ribbon cuttings were held on December 15, 2010 for the new additions at North and

South Dodge Elementary Schools. The additions were paid for with Special Purpose

Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds. Picture above (top) is North Dodge Elementary

Squaws finish 1-2 in Thomasville tournament; Dodge teams play in Jeff Davis tourney this week

The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team participated in the Thomasville Holiday Hoopfest last week at Thomasville High School. The Squaws went 1-2 in the tournament. Dodge defeated Randolph Clay 62-55 in the first game on Tuesday, December 21 and then lost to the host team, Thomasville 57-40 on Wednesday, December 22 and also lost to AAAA Lee County, 59-46 on Thursday, December 23. The Squaws are now 5-3 on the season.
In the Squaws opening game with Randolph-Clay on last Tuesday, Dodge outscored the Lady Devils 14-11 in the first quarter and was led by Jaye Hilliard, Michelle Mitchell and Kadayasha Jones each with four points in the quarter. Jones again led Dodge in the second quarter with six points the Squaws outscored the Lady Devils 16-9 to take a 30-19 halftime lead. [Full Story »]

Deputies make several theft, drug arrests

Dodge County sheriff’s narcotic investigators searched a residence on Page Street (Chester Highway) in Eastman last Tuesday, December 21. Investigators have arrested Herman Ivey (age 44), of Eastman, in connection with the case. Ivey is charged with the sale of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Sheriff’s investigators were assisted in the case by investigators from the Eastman Police Department.
Sheriff’s investigators have arrested Robert Johnson (age 42), of Eastman. Johnson is charged with multiple counts of felony theft by taking, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. [Full Story »]

Eastman Fireman Scotty Whitten is shown using the Jaws of Life to extricate

the accident victim from his Chevrolet Avalanche. Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on

Tuesday, December 28, the driver of the Avalanche apparently ran the red light

at the intersection of Georgia 117 (Rhine Road) and the Terry Coleman Parkway

as he was headed west. He ran into the rear tires of an 18-wheeler headed north

on the Terry Coleman Parkway. No one was injured in the accident.
