The Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) Lady Warrior Softball team hosted Diamond Day on Saturday September 25, 2010 at the Eastman-Dodge County Recreation Department.

Teams from West Laurens, East Laurens, Dublin, Swainsboro, Vidalia and Bleckley County were invited.

DCMS divided their team into two teams. Both Dodge County teams went undefeated for the day.

Dodge County Middle School is undefeated in their regular season games. The Lady Warriors will finish their last season game on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 against West Laurens.

Region playoffs will begin on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. [Full Story »]

Council drops truck ordinance

The Eastman city council voted in a split decision Monday night to do away with a truck ordinance they had voted in earlier this year.

The ordinance did not allow trucks over six wheels to be parked in residential sections of Eastman.

Therrell Cobb, a local truck owner, was affected by the ordinance and had been working with councilman Buddy Pittman to try and come up with a way he could keep his truck, and work on it at his home in a residential area of Eastman.

At the council meeting on Monday, September 27, Pittman came up with a variance with certain stipulations that would allow Cobb to keep his truck at home. [Full Story »]

Deputies solve old theft case

Dodge County sheriff’s investigators have solved a felony theft that occurred back in 2008 at a farm on Mt. Olive Church Road.

In October 2008, a person reported to the sheriff’s office the theft of about $5,000.00 worth of farm equipment and scrap metal.

Sheriff’s investigators have arrested four (4) people in connection with the old case.

James Bernard McRae (age 41), Erika “Shanese” McCoy (age 29), Ela Denise McCormick and Gerry “Gary” Eugene Armstrong (age 32), all of McRae.

All have been charged with felony theft by taking in the case. [Full Story »]

Dodge County sheriff narcotic investigators served a search warrant at a residence on William Way off of the W.P.A. Road on Thursday September 16.

Investigators state their investigation led to the arrest of two (2) people and a large seizure of drugs, cash and firearms.

Investigators found a large quantity of methamphetamines at the residence along with a huge assortment of firearms.

Investigators seized a large quantity of cash and thirty one (31) firearms, including pistols, shotguns and assault rifles.

Investigators also recovered some stolen tools and other items on the property. [Full Story »]

The Seventh Annual Miss Dodge County High School Pageant was held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Magnolia Theater in downtown Eastman.

The following young ladies competed for the title of Miss DCHS in their respective category:

Freshmen division contestants were Samantha Campbell, Erica Morgan Clements, Alicia Linzy, Brooke Moore, Breanna LaFavor, Chloe Abigail Fitz and Macy Coleman.

Sophomore division contestants were Myona Bra’Chelle Clemons, Sierra Brooks, Ashley Phillips, Breezy Strohmetz, Morgan Pruett, Sarah Ashley Winans, Courtney Nicole Branch and Sara Elizabeth Evans. [Full Story »]

Lady Indians beat Vidalia in extra innings, begin region three playoffs

The seventh ranked Dodge County High Lady Indians improved their record to 20-5 last week as they traveled to Vidalia and defeated them 8-5 in eight innings.

Ashton Holt also picked up her 20th win on the mound as she pitched all eight innings striking out 12 batters.

Leaders for the Dodge against Vidalia were: Adele Harrison was 1-for-4 including a sacrifice, 2 RBIs and a stolen base;

Jaye Hilliard was 2-for-5 including a double, an RBI, one run scored and one stolen base; Ashton Holt was 1-for-2 including a homerun, and an RBI [Full Story »]

Mistakes were made, but they have been fixed. Let’s move on.

Over five years ago, Curtis Peacock began trying to get the Dodge County boat landing fixed because there were times of the year that there was not enough water there to launch a boat. After finding that it would be too expensive to repair the river to make the current landing viable, Peacock began looking to build a new landing. [Full Story »]
