12 and under Dodge All-Stars win district

The Dodge County 12 and under All-Stars traveled to Screven County June 17 -21, 2010 to play in the GRPA district tournament.

The girls went undefeated and will begin state play July 8-10, 2010 also in Screven County.

The All-Stars started district play against the host team Screven County and defeated them by a score of six to two. On Friday they played Reidsville and easily defeated them by a score of 12 to one.

Next up for the team was a tough Hawkinsville team. [Full Story »]

Mother, son stabbed; assailant still at large

Dodge County sheriff’s deputies were called to a stabbing that occurred at a residence on Pine Street in Chester Friday night, June 25, just before midnight.

A mother and a son were stabbed and taken to Dodge County Hospital, according to deputies.

Firefighter dies in line of duty

Gresston Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jay C. Brown (42) died as the result of a heart attack he suffered while helping clear downed trees off a roadway after a storm on Sunday, June 27, according to Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith.

Brown was helping clear trees after a severe thunderstorm in north Dodge County on Friendship UMC Church Road.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., Brown began feeling short of breath and asked Leroy Lockett, another Gresston volunteer fireman, to take him to the hospital.

On the way, Lockett called 911 and an ambulance was dispatched. Enroute to meet the ambulance, Brown lost consciousness.

Lockett met the ambulance around the Heart of Georgia Cinemas on the Cochran Highway and CPR was started. [Full Story »]

Former Dodge County Sheriff Lawton Douglas, age 38, and one of his former deputies, Olin Norman Gibson, aka “BoBo”, age 43, were sentenced at the federal courthouse in Dublin by The Honorable Dudley H. Bowen, Jr. on Monday, June 28, 2010.

Judge Bowen sentenced Douglas to 18 months in prison to be followed by a three year term of supervised release, a $2,000.00 fine and 150 hours of community service.

Gibson was sentenced to four months in prison, a three year term of supervised release, a $1,000.00 fine and 150 hours of community service. [Full Story »]

Six teams head to state

Six out of eight Dodge County recreation department all-star teams won first place in their district games during the week of June 23-26, 2010.

The teams were eight and under girls, eight and under boys, 10 and under boys, 10 and under girls, 12 and under girls and 14 and under girls.

This is the first time in Dodge County and in the District 1 Class C Region that six teams will be playing in the state tournaments.

A total of 72 ballplayers will be representing Dodge County. [Full Story »]

I once heard it said that boldness must be countered with boldness. The federal government today is boldly forcing policies upon us that are making things worse than they already are now. We, the citizens of the eighth district, deserve a U.S. congressman who will boldly stand up to the unsustainable growth in Washington over the course of the last decade and say “enough is enough”.
