Dear Editor,

“What’s up America?” must be what is on almost everyone’s mind with all the unrest that Americans are faced with. I wonder what has happened when Americans can say, “We are in it together as one nation.” As time passes, America seems to become more of enemies than friends to each other.

The America that we say we love continues to lose her spiritual soul. Are Americans turning into counterfeit Christians? We are wearing the cross around our necks with no Christ in our heart. Nothing happens without a reason. [Full Story »]

The tragic loss of Georgians to traffic crashes devastates families both emotionally and financially and imposes far-reaching societal cost to employees and government agencies as well as public and private insurers.

Highway safety is a major concern for Georgia’s sheriffs’ offices.

Hurricanes bring home another championship

The Middle Georgia Hurricanes 12U Fast pitch soft ball traveled to Warner Robins Saturday, May 1, 2010 to play in the USSSA Qualifier Purple Extreme Fundraiser.

The Hurricanes played a round robin tournament with the top two teams playing for the championship.

The Hurricanes started the day off against Southern Breeze from Lyons. The girls just weren’t up to the task and made several errors as they lost to the Breeze 10 to 5.

The girls knew that they would have to play better if they were going to have a chance at the championship. [Full Story »]

Lady Indians tennis falls at Thomasville

The Dodge County girls tennis team advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the AA State Playoffs by defeating Brantley County 3-2 two weeks ago. The Lady Indians traveled to Thomasville High on Tuesday, April 27 to face the Lady Bulldogs in the Sweet 16 round.

The Lady Indians suffered a 0-5 loss to Thomasville. Number one singles player Callen Carroll took her first loss of the season for the Lady Indians.

Other singles participating were Brianna Jessup and Virginia Hargrove.

Judge Wall dismisses school civil law suit

Superior Court Judge Sarah F. Wall dismissed all claims against Dodge County Board of Education members, superintendent Dr. Darrel May and Wendy Dennis on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

Julius Gillespie and Diana Glass, representing a formed Concern Citizens Group, filed a complaint against school board members Doug Martin, Shirley Ikedionwu, Neil Spradley, Rocky Stuckey, Michelle Wahl, Chuck Parkerson and Kim Sheffield under the Open and Public Meetings Act on March 17, 2009.

The complaint also named Dr. May and Dennis. [Full Story »]

Floyd and Gordon qualify for state track meet

The Dodge County High School boys track team traveled to Southeast Bulloch High School last week to participate in the Region 3AA track meet.

The Indians finished in fifth place in the meet. Marquis Gordon and Leonard Floyd both qualified for the State AA track meet to be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Jefferson.

Gordon placed second in the discus and Floyd placed second in the shot put.

Indians named to Region 3-AA All Region Teams

Dodge County High School and baseball coach Tommy Adcock are pleased to announce that six members of the 2010 Indians baseball team have been chosen for the Region 3-AA All Region team.

The following players were voted to the Region 3-AA All Region first team:
Clint Taylor, right-handed pitcher; Herschel Anderson, catcher; Christian Miller, first baseman and Brady Blalock, shortstop.

In addition to the four first teamers, two other Indians were voted to the Region 3-AA All Region second team.

They were Brandon Beck, right-handed pitcher and Blake Moore, outfielder.

Clint Taylor was also voted the Pitcher of the Year for Region 3-AA. [Full Story »]
