The Georgia State Board of Education (SBOE), on Monday, May 24, granted an exemption of all statutory and regulatory class size maximums for the 2010-2011 school year.

Due to the continued economic downturn that has caused declines in state and local revenue, the SBOE recognized the need to give school districts more flexibility.

Local school districts will be required to submit a local board resolution to the Georgia Department of Education before class size maximums may exceed the current requirements. [Full Story »]

Dodge County Superior Court has selected the following jurors to appear at 12:50 p.m. on June 15, 2010.

The jurors should go to the Dodge County Courthouse.

If you see your name in the list below and have not been notified by mail, please call the Dodge County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office at 478-374-2871.

Fundraising tournament is scheduled

The first Mick Pruett Make a Wish Foundation softball tournament will be held on June 19.2010 at the Southern Pines Softball Complex in Dublin.

Upper and lower class divisions are planned with the upper class having a four to seven homerun bid and the lower having a one to three homerun bid.

An entry fee of $250.00 will be collected with $500.00 paid to the first place teams in each division along with a trophy. [Full Story »]

The Eugene Smith Masonic Lodge #279 of Eastman held its annual car show May 1, 2010 with great success.

The car show is an annual event held by the Eugene Smith Masonic Lodge as a fund-raiser for their various charities.

This year the lodge adopted the theme “Gnat-ionals” therefore it was renamed the 1st annual Gnat-ionals car show.

Featured in the show was Chris Davis’s 69 camaro and Randall Davis’s nostalgia funny car the Dixie Twister. The next show is scheduled for May 7, 2011.

The Dodge County Diamond Dawgs 10U baseball team recently won first place at the third annual Mad Batters Bash in Dublin, GA.

Five missing children found

Late Tuesday afternoon on May 18, 2010, Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Holder Place off of the W.P.A. Road in reference to five (5) small children who had been missing for several hours.

The children had been playing in the woods near a residence, apparently becoming disorientated and lost in the woods. Sheriff’s deputies requested assistance and manpower from multiple agencies to help search for the children.

The children were located a short time later by volunteer firefighters from the Eastman Fire Department in the woods more than a mile away from the residence. [Full Story »]
