DCMS Archery Team sponosors dance

The DCMS Archery Team has been working hard to raise money to go to the National Archery Tournament in Kentucky.

This Saturday night, May 1st they will sponsor a dance at the Eastman Dodge Recreation Department from 6:00-9:00 p.m. for grades 6-8.

They will have a concession stand open and the cost to enter the dance is $5.

The dance will be well chaperoned. If anyone would like to contribute to this trip, please contact Tara Dennis at 278-8771.

Thanks to everyone that has helped make this trip a success.

Candidates qualify for county commission

So far, six candidates have qualified to run for the Dodge County Commission.

Five candidates are currently seeking District 2 and only one candidate, incumbent Brian Watkins, has qualified for District 3.

In District 2, the following (in alphabetical order) have qualified: Oliver C. “Pee Wee” Mann, Jesse Mincey, Terry Niblett, Danny Howard Warren and Raymond Yawn. (See photos at right. A photo of Mann was not available at presstime). Mann, Mincey and Yawn qualified as Democrats and Niblett and Warren qualified as Republicans. Incumbent Carl Hosford has stated that he will not seek reelection to the post.

Qualifying for the two commission seats closes at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 30. The qualifying fee is $90.00. [Full Story »]

Win four tournaments

The HoCo Cubs, 11U travel baseball team, have competed in four tournaments in the past month and have been very successful. The team has gone undefeated in all four tournaments.

The HoCo Cubs competed in the Super NIT in Atlanta on March 20-21, 2010 and placed first out of 28 teams. They also placed first in the USSSA 2010 NIT March Madness on March 27-28 in Warner Robins, USSSA 2010 Spring Break Bash in Macon on April 10-11 and the Nations 2010 Clash of the Champions April 17-18 in Dublin.

The Dodge County High Lady Indian track team participated in the region 3AA tournament held at Southeast Bulloch High School last week. The Lady Indians had several team members who placed at region.

Michelle Mitchell finished in first place in the 100m winning the individual region championship in that even.

Ocie Smith placed second in the discus. Both Mitchell and Smith will be traveling to Albany on May 6, 2010 to participate in the State AA Track Meet.

Others placing at the region meet were: Lashonda Chambers finished fifth in the 100m hurdles; Shanteria Smith finished sixth in the 800m and Tarneisha Wright finished sixth in the 200m.

The girls’ track team is coached by Ricky Collins this year.

A pickup truck and 18-wheeler collided head-on after the driver of the pickup apparently failed to yield the right of way.

Lyle Foster (35), of Eastman, was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup north on the Hawkinsville Highway when he attempted to turn left into a private drive.

According to the Georgia State Patrol report, Foster stated that the sun obscured his vision. [Full Story »]

The tournament was held at Rocky Creek Golf Club in Vidalia for both boys and girls.
