Remember back when billion was a shock word? It’s still huge. A billion is 1,000 x 1,000,000. You could start spending $1,000 per day every day for 2000 years and you would have spent less than $1 billion. The amount spent would be a “mere” $730,000,000, still well under $1,000,000,000. A deserving Madison Academy student was surprised by Ronald McDonald recently to learn she was selected as one of 10 U.S. McDonald’s Champion Kids® (MCK).
Erin Young (12) of Huntsville entered the national contest hosted by McDonald’s® in October and will attend the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games in February and serve as a youth correspondent back to the Northern Alabama area. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team defeated East Laurens and Dublin last week to finish out their sub region games for the season. The Squaws defeated East Laurens on Tuesday, January 26 by a score of 49-28 and Dublin on Friday, January 29 by a score of 53-40. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County High Indians basketball team won two big sub region games last week as they avenged earlier losses to East Laurens and Dublin to extend their winning streak to five in row and six of their last seven.
The Indians defeated East Laurens 54-53 on Tuesday, January 26 and then beat fifth ranked Dublin 44-39 on Friday, January 29. The Indians are now 11-10 overall and 6-4 in the sub region. [Full Story »]
