Squaws defeat Screven and Jefferson; begin region tournament play next week

The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team won two games last week. The Squaws defeated Screven County on Friday, February 5 by a score of 52-36 on Senior night and then traveled to Jefferson County on Saturday, February 6 and beat them 51-37. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County High Indians basketball team split two games last week against Screven County and Jefferson County. The Indians defeated Screven County on Friday, February 5 by a score of 83-81 and lost to Jefferson County on the road last Saturday, February 6 by a score of 91-77. The Indians are now 12-11 overall 6-4 in the sub region. [Full Story »]

Three Dodge County High School Grappling Indians advanced to the Georgia State East Sectional Tournament at Jefferson High School by placing in the area tournament recently. This is the largest number of wrestlers Dodge County has ever had placing in the area tourny with hopes of earning a state tournament spot. [Full Story »]

Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors win region championship

On Saturday, February 6, the Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors took on Bleckley County for the Middle Georgia Middle School Association Championship. The first quarter was low scoring as the Lady Warriors lead eight to seven, Davina Clark has three points. The game remained close, the second quarter, but Bleckley took a 19 to 17 lead into halftime. The
The third quarter saw the Lady Warriors really struggle. Bleckley outscored the Lady Warriors 11 to seven to take a 30 to 24 lead going into the fourth quarter. With 3.25 left in the game, the Lady Warriors trailed by eight and in big trouble. T.Y. Northcutt scored four straight points plus a stingy defense that finally showed up in the fourth period, cut into the lead. A big lift came from Markesha McLoud, as she scored 11 straight points in the final minutes to rescue the Lady Warriors, and send them to a 42 to 33 victory and the Region Championship. Congratulations players and coaches on a school record 18 wins and a Region Championship. Scoring in the game were Markesha McLoud 15 points, Asia Jones eight points, Davina Clark six points, T.Y. Northcutt six points, Jovanna Collins four points and Katie Selph three points. [Full Story »]

Better Business Bureau has released a list of the top 10 scams and rip-offs of 2009. Not surprisingly, many scams sought to take advantage of people who were suffering under tough economic circumstances—such as the unemployed. In the wake of the earthquake disaster in Haiti, Americans are donating via text message more than ever before. The BBB advises donors that giving through text can be a safe and easy way to give—but you should still use caution.
