Editor,
We spend a lot of time talking about success but are doing a poor job of teaching it. We are doing a worse job in teaching failure. Failure is the act of not succeeding in doing something.

Reinvest your dividends
Thoughts From The Right Side
By Marshall Miller
If a person had invested $10,000 in the S&P 500 Composite Index in 1957, with dividends reinvested, it would have grown to $1.9 million today, a not bad at all 10.9 annual percentage return, considering the financial turmoil we have been experiencing. Pick and choose carefully and you will do a lot better than average. [Full Story »]

Decade of disillusion
A Little Common Sense
By Rich Lowry
If the 1990s were the decade when history ended, in Francis Fukuyama’s famous formulation, the 2000s were the decade it came back and human nature exacted its revenge for our fatuousness.
The 1990s were prefaced by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, an exhilarating burst of liberty for tens of millions. In the 2000s, Russia backslid into a sullen authoritarianism, and the initially stirring liberations of Iraq and Afghanistan proved more inconclusive than advertised. [Full Story »]

Be cautious at Dodge County Hospital
To All of Dodge County:
If you or anyone you know has to go to the Dodge County Hospital (DCH) Emergency Room in the future, please be very cautious.
On Saturday, January 2, 2010, my mother woke up with sharp pains in her stomach. She had had minor pain for a couple of days, but, because of the holiday, she could not get in to see her doctor. She went to the new urgent care center in Eastman, but they would not accept her insurance, and told her she would have to pay a $15.00 co-pay and be responsible for 20% of the final bill. Being a widow on a fixed income, she could not afford to pay what they were asking. She decided to go to the DCH Emergency Room for help. The nursing staff was very nice, and the admissions clerks were also helpful and friendly. Once the doctor came into her room, though, the situation changed. [Full Story »]

America depends on us
Editor,
ATTENTION: This is 2010 and it will be the year that will go down in history as either, the year the downfall of the United States of America occurred or the year that the Socialist Revolution in America was defeated by it’s citizens. [Full Story »]

Thoughts From The Right Side
By Marshall Miller
Who can top this: Henry Wisebram of Barnesville, Georgia, who died at age 86 on December 27, 2009, made the rank of Major during World War II at age 20.
“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project; most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it.”
Ronald Reagan 1961 radio interview
Angry White Dude (angrywhitedude.com) is right. Democrats kept John McCain’s candidacy alive so they could run against him and blow him away in November.
“McCain was out of money and dead in the water until open primaries let Democrats vote in numbers for him and revive his candidacy.” [Full Story »]

Man-caused disaster
A Little Common Sense
By Rich Lowry
Janet Napolitano is impressed with Janet Napolitano’s work. In an instantly notorious statement on CNN, the Homeland Security secretary said “the system worked” when a man boarded a Christmas Day flight from Amsterdam to Detroit with explosives in his underwear that he couldn’t quite manage to ignite.
Does “the system” count on all explosive devices smuggled onto international flights not detonating? When Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab set himself on fire while trying to blow up the plane and kill its 278 passengers, a Dutch filmmaker leapt on him, ripped a smoldering object from near his crotch and put it out with his bare hands. Or as Napolitano put it, “Everybody played an important role here.” [Full Story »]

Get spending under control
Editor,
How much money has the Obama white house spent in one year in office? We still have severe unemployment, a sick economy and nothing is getting better any time soon. Starting in January all of us will be paying more taxes to pay for this health care coverage or non-coverage. Now I don’t consider myself the brightest light in the forest, but I do know that if you want to get people spending money and creating jobs, people have to have some money to spend. You don’t tax people to death when you have an economy like we have now. You lower taxes on people and businesses and hopefully people will spend the money which will create a demand for goods which will lead to more jobs. [Full Story »]

Respiration may soon be a capital crime
Editor,
I read with interest the news articles and comments about global warming. Certainly common sense dictates rational thought in this fast pace, hi-tech, global economic world in which we live. We like to believe so. [Full Story »]
