The Dodge County High School Squaws basketball teamed opened their 2009-10 season with two wins this past week. The Squaws who are ranked tenth in the GASPORTS.COM Coaches Poll defeated an always tough AAAA Jones County team 52-42 on Tuesday, December 1 in Gray and then hosted Hawkinsville on Friday, December 4 and defeated the Lady Devils, 48-23. Senior Tahitia Butler was recognized for scoring the 1000th point of her career during the Hawkinsville game. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County High School Indian basketball team opened their 2009-10 season with a split of games with Jones County and Hawkinsville. The Indians lost to Jones County 69-72 in overtime and defeated the Red Devils of Hawkinsville, 66-26 in their home opener. [Full Story »]

While Santa and his industrious elves are wrapping up a year of preparing toys for delivery, one local group of holiday heroes is just embarking on their four-day blitz hoping to achieve the same goal.
This weekend, the Eastman Firefighters Club, for the eighth year, will turn to the community to help ensure a merry Christmas for the children of Dodge County.
Mark Sheffield, a local fireman and employee of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department, is serving for the third year as coordinator of the annual Eastman Fire Department Toy Drive.
In his previous two years, he has watched as local residents have donated toys that have brought smiles to the faces of more than 800 children. This year, he hopes to see that need filled again. [Full Story »] 

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is changing the uniform of the sheriff’s deputies. On Friday, November 20, 2009, deputies began wearing new uniforms, according to Sheriff Jeff Hinson.
Deputies now wear a slate gray uniform shirt and black pants with a gray stripe. A new patch will adorn the uniform, which was designed by the deputies. [Full Story »]

Ronald Reagan told the Soviet leader, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall”, on June 12, 1987 in a speech at the Berlin Wall, which was built in 1961 as President John Kennedy (Mr. Overrated) stood idly by, saying and doing nothing as the Soviets built it.
On November 9, 1989, less than 2 1/2 years after the Reagan speech, they tore the wall down. [Full Story »]
