In the state of Georgia there are several thousand citizens living in Georgia’s seven regional mental health and retardation hospitals. Many of these patients have lived in these hospitals most of their lives and have little, if any, contact with or support from friends or family. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County Indians traveled to Cochran last Friday, October 16 and defeated the Bleckley County Royals 28-21 in overtime. The Indians are now 4-3 on the season. Dodge has three games left in the regular season and if they can win at least two of those three games they should be in good shape to make the state playoffs. [Full Story »]

The Lauren’s County Sheriff’s Narcotics investigators has uncovered an illegal prescription scheme. Suspects, acting as patients, were allegedly obtaining thousands of narcotic muscle relaxers and anxiety and pain pills from an Eastman physician.
However, detectives said that three of Dr. Channing Jun’s office staff had been in on the scheme. They would move the record of the patients’ visit to the last visit to the back of the file so the doctor would not realize he had just seen the patient and prescribed narcotics to them. At first, it appeared to be a normal case when Laurens County Sheriff’s narcotics investigators arrested Rachel Moore on September 30, 2008. She allegedly had the narcotic Carisoprodol, commonly known as the muscle relaxer Soma, in her possession.
Allegedly, Moore hadn’t just bought the pills from a pharmacy – but off the street. So investigators Jamie Jackson and Chris Brewer asked Moore to call her seller – a woman named Rebecca White. When White was arrested en route to meet Moore, she allegedly had more Soma as well as Alprazolam known as the anxiety treatment Xanax, and pain pills known as Darvocet in her possession. Dodge County Sheriff’s investigators have solved several burglaries and thefts in the last week. Sheriff’s investigators on Friday, October 10 arrested and charged Dana Shawn Floyd (age 29) of a Cochran address, with burglary. Floyd allegedly committed a burglary on Rogers Cemetery Road in Dodge County where approximately $10,000.00 worth of jewelry was stolen. Investigators have recovered most of the jewelry which was taken. [Full Story »]
