Qualifying has ended for the City of Eastman council seats in Districts 1 and 5. [Full Story »] 

Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call last Saturday night in Milan where a man allegedly shot his neighbor’s dog and then allegedly threatened to shoot the neighbor. Deputies arrested Henry Sutton (age 74) of Milan and charged Sutton with cruelty to animals, terroristic threats and acts and discharging a firearm near a roadway as result of the investigation. The phone rings, you pick it up, and the caller identifies himself as an officer of the court. He says you failed to report for jury duty and that a warrant is out for your arrest. You say you never received a notice. To clear it up, the caller says he’ll need some information for “verification purposes”-your birth date, social security number, maybe even a credit card number.

Want to save the USA some big bucks? As of May 28, 2008 we had more than 289,000 servicemen and women stationed overseas.
In Iraq we have 170,000, Germany 57,000, Japan 33,000, Korea 27,100, Afghanistan 21,700. The rest are deployed across 152 nations and territories including 92,000 at sea.
We could save a fortune by pulling most or all of these people out of these places. The foreign countries we occupy are delighted to have us pour money into their areas so this is fine with them. Liberals would want the money spent instead on vote-buying social programs. I say send it back to the taxpayers. [Full Story »]

If he wants to prevail in Afghanistan, Barack Obama needs a George W. Bush moment. He’ll have to ignore the polls, brush aside doubters in his own party and reinforce a failing war effort.
Bush did all that, and more, when he ordered the surge in Iraq in January 2007. He also had to buck his own military brass and almost the entirety of a foreign-policy establishment that considered the feckless recommendations of the Baker-Hamilton commission holy writ. He operated from a position of political weakness so debilitating, Lyndon Johnson might have identified with it in his final days. [Full Story »]

Taking an inventory of the progress of one of the greatest nations that has ever existed and not forgetting the unfortunate experiences she has suffered, one can’t help but wander if this nation is becoming shaken or shattered. While American citizens are crying about the things that are wrong, we must remember these things took place over a period of years because the bad decisions that have been made in the past. The Dodge County High Lady Indians split sub-region games with Toombs County and Vidalia last week. The Lady Indians also participated in a tournament held at Jeff Davis on Friday, September 11, 2009 and Saturday, September 12, 2009 and won two of five games to take fourth place in the tournament. The Lady Indians are now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the sub-region. [Full Story »]
