With high expectations, and the grim reminder of coming so close last year, the Dodge County AllStar 10 and under girls traveled to Madison for their quest to cap off a fantastic season by bringing a state championship back home.

The girls knew from the beginning that they were the team to beat and wanted to live up to that reputation. Having won every tournament this season and plowing their way through sub-district and district play, the girls were ready for the task at hand. This year’s team relied on their outstanding defensive play. No team had scored in double digits on them and they were not about to let it happen at State.

First up for the girls was the host team of Morgan County. Nerves were getting the best of both teams, as Dodge would score two runs in the first inning, and hold Morgan County scoreless. Dodge would put three more runs on the board in the second inning with some great bunting by Lindsey Crummey and Leah Creech. Dodge added one more in the fourth inning and three in the sixth inning, as they would defeat Morgan County by a score of 9 to 3. [Full Story »] 

The Dodge County AllStars 7-8 year old girls were undefeated with a record of 24-0. They started the state tournament off against Tallapoosa, Harrison County. The girls came out swinging hard and played amazing defense with Kaitlynn “Twiggy” Rogers throwing out a runner heading to second from right field, winning the game with a final score of 24-1. Dodge County Sheriff's Deputies, Rhine Fire Department First Responders and Dodge EMS responded to a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Rhine Highway GA 117 next to John Howard's store Monday, July 13, 2009 around 4:30 p.m. The Rhine Highway is currently being repaved by contractors working for the Georgia D.O.T. Emergency personnel arrived at the wreck scene and found a tractor trailer overturned, trapping the driver of the vehicle under the cab of the truck. [Full Story »]
