Incumbent Eastman City Councilman David Rawlins has retained his seat on the Eastman City Council defeating political newcomer Marlas Williamson by almost two to one.
Rawlins garnered 65 votes to Williamson’s 33 in the District 5 race.
In a very poor turnout, with less than 100 voters participating in the election, there were only 71 voters that cast ballots on the machines and 27 absentee ballots cast.
The district has over 400 registered voters.
In Chauncey, there was a special election to fill a vacant post for councilman Dene Phillips, who resigned. Theron McCranie won that post with 57 votes. His opponent, Mae Sue Howard, got 23 votes.
In the regular election in Chauncey, Roger Davis, Aaron Howard, Jr. and Carrie Carr won seats on the council. They received 68, 65 and 55 votes respectively.
William Atkins got 24 votes and Nancy Winans got 9 votes.
In Milan, Freddie Dorris, Jr., Glenda Taylor, Inez Douglas, Cricket Williamson and Roy Selph were elected, garnering 175, 172, 164, 155 and 152 votes respectively.
Chad Puckett received 128 votes and Cathy McDaniel got 53 votes.
In a special election in Rhine, for a seat on the city council after Travis Clements resigned, Wayne Hilliard won with a vote count of 103 to challenger Sheila Wilcox’s 25 votes.
If you look, Milan was holding a regular election for multiple positions whereas one District in Eastman was electing one Councilman. It's not uncommon turnout given these facts.
