Qualifying began Monday, August 8 at 9:00 a.m. for the special election to fill the unexpired term of the late Dodge County District 4 Commissioner Archie Dupree.
As of presstime on Tuesday afternoon, two people, Tommy Barrentine, a retired businessman, and Karen Cheek, a pharmacist, had qualified for the post. Qualifying ends on Wednesday, August 10 at 5:00 p.m.
Qualifying for the position is held at the Dodge County Probate Court in the Dodge County Courthouse. The qualifying fee is $90.00.
Although a regular commission election is partisan (candidates must declare their party affiliation, i.e. Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, etc.) the special election will be a non partisan race.
The special election will be held on September 20, 2011.
District 4 voters will include the following precincts: part of Chauncey, part of Lee, and Mitchell. If anyone has questions about what district they vote in, they may contact the Dodge County registrar at 478-374-8123.
All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on August 22, 2011.
Early voting will be held as soon as ballots can be printed and voting machines calibrated. Polls will open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on election day.
Should a runoff be required, such runoff will be held on October 18, 2011.
Dupreeās unexpired term will end on December 31, 2012.
