Cummings (age 32) of Eastman was charged with two (2) counts of sale of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of firearm by a convicted felon as a result of the investigation. The sheriff’s office has received numerous complaints over the last several weekends about Club 341 located in the old Ag Best building off of the McRae Highway. The sheriff’s office, after researching the matter, located a county ordinance from 1998, signed by then county commissioner Jim Spradley, which applied to the happenings of the club. The ordinance apparently had not been enforced over the last several years. The ordinance prohibits any club from operating where patrons are allowed to bring in alcohol. Further, the ordinance mandates that all clubs will close no later than 1:00 a.m. with the premises being totally vacated by 1:30 a.m.
Sheriff Jeff Hinson notified the club owner of the ordinance on Friday evening. Sheriff Hinson, along with ten (10) deputies and members of the Eastman Police Department, went to the club Friday night prior to midnight. Law enforcement officials found a large crowd of several hundred people at the club with alcohol on the premises brought in by patrons. Officials confiscated alcohol and began informing patrons of the county ordinance. Hinson, along with deputies and officers, returned to the club at 1:00 a.m. early Saturday morning and insured that the club closed on time.
