Taylor named All-Middle Georgia GHSA Baseball Player of the Year

Dodge County Indian Clint Taylor was named 2011 GHSA Middle Georgia Baseball Player of the Year by The Telegraph on Monday, June 13.
Taylor was a dominate pitcher for the Indians this year with 12 wins in 14 starts. He had an earned run average of 1.21 with 70 strikeouts to 10 walks. At the plate, Taylor provided power and a consistent bat for the Indians as well.
He hit .583 with 10 homeruns, 10 doubles and 42 runs batted in. With these numbers, Taylor was only struck out five times during the season.
Taylor helped to lead the Indians to one of their best seasons, 20-9 and 10-2, in region play that included a region championship.
The Indians fell short in the “Sweet 16” round of the state playoffs to an Appling County team that made it to the final four.

“I have had the pleasure and honor of watching a special young man come through the high school program the last four years,” Dodge County head baseball coach Jayme Fordham stated. “He has literally grown into an outstanding talent and overpowering pitcher and player. He is such an outstanding young man, that I spent most of my time not coaching him, but trying to get him fired up and when he did, he was unstoppable.”
Taylor received the Dodge County Indian Player of the Year award at their banquet held in May.
He was named Region 3AA Player of the Year on May 4, 2011 by Region 3AA coaches.
Taylor signed an athletic scholarship to Georgia Southern University (GSU) in November 2010 and will pitch for the Eagles. The GSU Eagles made it in the NCAA baseball regional playoffs this year.
Taylor is the son of Wayne and Camille Taylor of Eastman and has one brother, Jud.He is the grandson of Bill and Judy Lowery of Eastman and Catherine Taylor of Milan and the late Bobby Taylor of Milan.
The last time this honor was bestowed on any player from Dodge County was in 2006 when Ross Smith received the honor for baseball.
