The Lady Indians got off to a great start with consecutive singles by Adele Harrison and Jaye Hilliard and a walk to Ashton Holt loaded the bases with no outs. Bridgette Coleman’s RBI ground-out scored one run. Caitlin Greer’s RBI single scored the second run. Brittany Sorrell’s RBI single plated the third run to make the score 3-0, Dodge.
In the second inning, a sacrifice fly by Bridgette Coleman brought the score to 4-0. Ashton Holt added another sacrifice fly to bring the score to 5-0 after two innings.

The fourth inning is where strange things happened. Four walks, 1 hit by pitcher (HBP), plus only one hit in the fifth gave Cook a 9-7 lead. The controversy then began when the game was called after five innings due to darkness. Cook County had no lights on the field but was allowed to host a state tournament.
After contacting Dodge County Athletic Director Lee Campbell concerning a protest against Cook County, he stated, “There is no protest and there is no appeal. Any game that has completed five innings is a complete game for whatever reasons, weather or darkness.”
Top scorers for the Lady Indians were: Brittany Sorrell was 2 for 3 with one run scored, one RBI and one double; Jaye Hilliard was 1 for 2 with one run scored; Adele Harrison was 1 for 2 with two runs scored; Caitlin Greer was 1 for 3 with one RBI.
With the series tied at one game each, Cook County got on the board first in the third game with two runs in the top of the first inning. Dodge answered with one run in the bottom of the first but should have had more as runners were left stranded on second and third with one out.
The game stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Caitlin Greer’s in-field single would tie the game at two. The Lady Indians would leave the bases loaded.
Cook failed to score in the top of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, the Lady Indians made a huge base running mistake. With a girl on third base and one out, a fly ball to right field presented a chance for a tag and score a game winning run, but it did not happen. The runner was left stranded at third base.
The next inning, Cook County scored a run. The Lady Indians failed to score, thus making the heartbreaking final score Cook 3, Dodge 2. The Lady Indians saw a great chance to go to Columbus but it slipped through their fingers.
Top scorers for the Lady Indians were: Caitlin Greer was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs; Adele Harrison was 1 for 5 with one run scored; Ashton Holt was 2 for 3; Jaye Hilliard was 1 for 5 with one run scored; Danielle Rogers was 1 for 3.
