Getting past the homes, churches, in most cases, seem to care more for the money than the soul. Many of our schools in the large cities have almost let violence take over. Many of our schools have become like a small battle zone when it comes to safety. No Child Left Behind is about as solid as cotton candy and the fault does not lie with the teachers.
We are blessed to not have any bad children but there are too many that are undisciplined. In most cases, some of our teachers have to spend a third of their time trying to maintain order in the classroom with some of the students. From time to time, law enforcement has to be called just to remove a student from the bus in order to deliver the rest of the students home safely. Whether we are looking at the school system or the bus system, Dodge County is blessed with qualified people to run things. The real problem is that they do not have the kind of support that is needed to maintain discipline in the classroom. I wonder why we do not have board members or superintendents that do not show enough concern to just ride a different bus from time to time so they can see the kind of abuse that the drivers are faced with daily.
I would like to make myself very clear. I do not make reference to all of our children, it’s just the same few on each bus everyday. The rules that have been approved by the board members are just not working when the same students are doing the same thing all year long. Many of the students are put off the buses for almost a dozen times or more. I will never understand how we expect to change what we keep tolerating.
All too often teachers and bus drivers find themselves boxed in when it comes to the controlling of children. If there is any truth to it, no school system should have to accept all kinds of unacceptable behavior just for the money that is given to keep a kid in school. That is a situation with no happy medium. I wish many adults and parents would ride by the middle and high school just to look at the dress of many of our young men. Uniform is not the answer if our students are going to dress the same way.
This article is not written to insult or to make anyone angry but if they would look around, I believe they will see the same thing and be willing to do something about it.
Thank you and Lord bless,
