Eastman police warn of scam

Eastman police are reporting that a scam is going on in the Eastman area and one elderly Eastman resident has already been a victim and taken for $13,000.00.
According to police, an elderly Eastman woman was shopping at Fred’s on Thursday, March 24. When she was in the parking lot, she was approached by a black female who told her that she had just found a money bag containing a large amount of money as well as some bonds. Another black female approached and stated she had witnessed the first black female find the bag.
One of the black females stated that she worked for a lawyer’s office in Dublin. The victim was then told that the money would be split with her, but first, she would have to pay out her half.

The victim said that she then went to two banks, one in Eastman and withdrew $4,000.00 and one in Laurens County where the victim drew out $9,000.00. The victim gave the money to the two black females. The three women then drove to Radio Shack in Dublin, one of the black females and the victim in one vehicle and the other black female in another vehicle. Both black females then left the victim in Dublin and never returned.
Eastman police warn citizens that if they are approached with a scheme that seems “to good to be true” and involves them having to come up with money in order to participate, they should decline and notify authorities.

How stupid can she be? But, was not she willing to accept money and bonds that were not hers? Ha ha! I guess some things do "come back on you!" Ha ha!

Some of the people in this small town have never heard of such scams and so therefore they are victims that just don't stop and think.

This article highly upsets me and I am praying that these scammers will be caught soon. No one should blame the victim they should be blaming these low life crooks who wants to prey on the innocent.

Our senior citizens needs all the protection they can get these days from law enforcement and the general public. LOVE A SENIOR!

I agree with "Dodge#1". They may have not heard of such scams, but a "good citizen" would take $13,000 to the police station. So who is innocent really? The found money wouldn'y have been the victim's. So what right do they have taking it for themselves? We're not talking about $10 laying on the ground.

Funny how this person is only reported as a victim when clearly she was perfectly willing to victimize the (hypothetical) person who lost the money in the first place. So as long as your target remains faceless you can maintain your victim status? I hope the other two get caught, but after they spend this "victims" money.

It looks that way to me, too, Phillip. She was willing to accept somebody else's LOST money as her own...so maybe she got some of what she was trying to dish out?
It is a fact that a lot of old people get scammed, but most are not trying to get something for nothing. Most of them think they are paying for a service, not trying to take advantage of some poor soul who LOST their money.

come on. lets be real. poor pity this elderly victim who was basically partaking in stolen money to began and KNEW it. might be cold- hearted but what's worse? what they did? or the fact that this victim was trying to do something immoral to begin with? i dont feel sorry for this victim....lets just hope there are no more "victims" A.k.A. idiots who think they are going to get rich that easy.
