Indians pay tribute Derek “Dee” Taylor

Dee lost his life in an automobile accident on October 10, 2010 in Bleckley County. Speaking before the game, Dee’s father, Derek Taylor, wanted to thank everyone who made the event possible. He was moved by the out-pouring of love and support for Dee.

Many of Dee’s family members, former teammates, and friends were on hand to release 24 balloons in his honor.
Dee’s family was presented with his framed No. 24 baseball jersey that he wore his senior year. During the ceremony, Mr. Taylor announced the founding of the Derek Taylor Memorial Scholarship.

Although all of the details have not been finalized, Taylor says that he wants the scholarship to be awarded to a Dodge County baseball player who works hard, has good self-discipline, and displays good character.

After Mr. Taylor threw out the ceremonial first pitch in Dodge County’s home opener, the Indians set out to get back to their winning ways.
