The Dodge County High Indian basketball team played two
games last week in the Region 3AA Tournament held at Swainsboro High School.
The Indians faced Screven County in the first round on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 and defeated the Gamecocks, 68-50.
The win advanced the Indians to region quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 against Swainsboro. The Indians fell short to the Tigers 53-58 on their homecourt.
The Tigers would go on to win the region championship over previously unbeaten Laney on Saturday.
The Indians finished their season 16-7.
The Indians led 17-10 after one quarter over Screven on Tuesday. Leonard Floyd led Dodge with 13 of his game 23 points in the quarter. Dodge outscored the Gamecocks 18-12 in the second to extend their lead to 35-22 at the half. Julious McCoy had nine points off of three three-pointers in the second quarter to lead the Indians.
The Indians extended their lead to 51-35 after three quarters. Floyd again led Dodge with five points in the quarter. Dodge outscored Screven 17-15 in the final quarter to keep their lead at 68-50. Greg Butler and Floyd each had five to lead the Indians in the fourth.
Final scoring for the Indians against Screven County was Leonard Floyd, 23 points; Julious McCoy, 11 points; Greg Butler, 11 points; Tamius Lemon, eight points; Justice Burch, six points; Marcus Brown, five points; Curtis Rushing, three points; Rusty Selph, one point.
Dodge held a 13-10 lead over Swainsboro after one quarter in Wednesday’s quarterfinal game. Tamius Lemon led Dodge with four points in the quarter. The Indians outscored the Tigers 18-10 in the second quarter to take a 31-20 halftime lead. Marcus Brown led Dodge with six points in the second quarter.
The Tigers came out and outscored Dodge 24-8 in the third quarter and take a 44-39 lead over the Indians after three quarters. Lemon led Dodge with seven points in the third. The Indians opened the fourth quarter with six straight points to take the lead back at 45-44 with 4:55 left in the game.
The Tigers then went on 5-0 run to take the lead back at 49-45 with 3:22 left. The Indians then score five straight points to take the lead again at 50-49 with 2:43 left. The Tigers then outscored Dodge 6-3 down the stretch to take the 58-53 win over the Indians.
