The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team played two games
in the region 3AA tournament this past week in Swainsboro.
The Squaws defeated Screven County in the region semi-finals on Friday,
February 18, 2011 by a score of 50-32.
The win advanced Dodge to the region championship game on Saturday,
February 19, 2011 against the fourth ranked Laney Wildcats.
The Squaws lost to the Wildcats, 55-74. The Squaws are now 17-9
and are the Region 3AA runner-ups.
The Squaws now advance to the State AA Tournament
where they will host Cook County on Friday, February 25, 2011
at 7:00 p.m. in the first round.
A win on Friday and the Squaws will advance to either travel to Vidalia or host Putnam County on Tuesday, March , 2011 depending on who wins the Vidalia/Putnam County game.
In Friday’s semifinal game against Screven, Dodge led 11-9 after one quarter. Kadayasha Jones led Dodge with four points in the quarter. The Squaws outscored Screven 10-9 in the second quarter to hold on to a 21-18 halftime lead. Michelle Mitchell led with four points in the second. The Squaws pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Gamecocks 17-9 and led 38-27 after three quarters.
Kadejah Carson and Jones each had six points to lead Dodge in the third. Dodge continued to keep control in the four quarter as they outscored Screven 12-5. Carson had six points to lead the Squaws in the fourth.
Final scoring for the Squaws against Screven County was: Michelle Mitchell, 15 points; Kadayasha Jones, 14 points; Kadejah Carson, 13 points; Jaye Hilliard, five points; Javonna Collins, two points; Morgan Weeks, one point.
The Squaws trailed Laney, 14-21 after one quarter in the region championship game on Saturday. Kadejah Carson led Dodge with four points in the first. The Squaws outscored Laney 16-15 in the second quarter to trail 30-35 at the half. Kadayasha Jones led Dodge with 10 points in the quarter including two three-pointers.
Laney outscored the Squaws 20-13 in the third quarter to take a 55-43 lead after three. Michelle Mitchell led Dodge with five points in the third. Laney again outscored Dodge in the fourth quarter, 19-12 as they took the win, 74-55 for the region championship.
Final scoring for the Squaws against Laney was Kadayasha Jones, 16 points; Michelle Mitchell, 15 points; Kadejah Carson, 13 points; Jaye Hilliard, six points; Morgan Weeks, two points: Javonna Collins, two points.
