The Dodge County High School Squaws basketball team finished their regular season schedule with three games last week. The Squaws won two of the three games to improve their overall record to 16-8.
Dodge split games with AAAA Northside Warner Robins as they defeated the Lady Eagles in Eastman on Tuesday, February 8 by a score of 41-40 and then traveled to Warner Robins on Friday, February 11 and lost to the Lady Eagles, 56-60 in two real competitive games.
The Squaws finished out the week on Saturday, February 12 by defeating Telfair County, 66-31.
The Squaws now move on the Region 3AA Tournament to be held at Swainsboro High School. The Squaws finished as the number one team in sub-region 3AA B and received a bye to the region semi-finals on Friday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Squaws will wait for the other teams in their side of the bracket to play during week to find out their opponent. They will play the winner of the Jefferson Co/East Laurens vs. Screven County game. A win on Friday would move them into the championship game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. A loss puts them in the 3rd/4th place game at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Squaws have already clinched a spot in the AA State Tournament.
In Tuesday’s home game with Northside, the Squaws led 24-22 at halftime and were led by Michelle Mitchell with five points in the first quarter and Jaye Hilliard with three points in the second quarter. Dodge continued to hold a slim 31-30 lead over the Lady Eagles after three quarters as both Mitchell and Hilliard hit three-pointers in the quarter to lead the Squaws. Dodge scored six straight points to open the fourth quarter and take a 37-30 lead with 5:41 left and led 41-37 with 2:25 left. The Lady Eagles scored three points to close out the quarter as Dodge held on to 41-40 win. Mitchell and Kadejah Carson each scored four points in the final quarter to lead the Squaws.
Final scoring for the Squaws against Northside was: Michelle Mitchell, 12 points; Jaye Hilliard, 10 points; Kadejah Carson, nine points; Kadayasha Jones, seven points; Asia Jones, two points; Javonna Collins, two points; Morgan Weeks, one point.
In the rematch with Northside on Friday in Warner Robins, the Squaws led 15-7 after one quarter. Kadejah Carons led with five points in the quarter. Carson again led Dodge in the second quarter as she scored seven of her game 22 points as the Squaws held to 29-26 halftime lead. The Lady Eagles took their first lead in the game in the third quarter at 35-33 with 3:08 left and lead 43-35 at the end of three. Kadayasha Jones led with three points in the third. Northside led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter but the Squaws cut into that lead and trailed 50-53 with 1:54 left but could get no closer and fell to the Lady Eagles 56-60. Carson again led Dodge with 10 points in the final quarter.
Final scoring for the Squaws against Northside was: Kadejah Carson, 22 points; Kadayasha Jones, 16 points; Michelle Mitchell, 12 points; Morgan Weeks, four points; Asia Jones, two points.
The Squaws led 19-8 after one quarter against Telfair on Senior night last Saturday. Michelle Mitchell scored 11 points in the first quarter to lead the Squaws and was recognized for scoring her 1000th point of her high school career during the quarter. Dodge extended their lead in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Trojans 13-6 and taking a 32-14 halftime lead. Davina Clark led Dodge with five points in the quarter and Markesha McLoud had four points. Mitchell scored eight more of her game high 26 points in the third quarter to help the Squaws extend their lead to 50-22 after three quarters. Dodge continued to dominate in the four quarter as they outscored Telfair 16- 9 and take a 66-31 non-region victory.
