Former Eastman Badcock Home Furnishings store owner Robert C. Rogers (43), has been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and charged with felony theft by taking.
Rogers, who now lives in Lavergne, Tennessee, was the owner of the Eastman Badcock store when it moved from Dodge Plaza into a new building beside Zaxby’s on the Cochran Highway.
Rogers was arrested on December 28 and was later released on a $3,000.00 property bond.
He is accused of taking an undisclosed amount of money from Badcock, Incorporated while he was the owner of the Eastman store.
Metal thefts continue to be a problem in Dodge County. Thieves have even stolen metal from the construction site of the new Dodge County jail.
Sheriff’s investigators came into information that workers on the site were stealing metal and materials from the contractor Peter Brown Construction Company. Investigators followed up on the tip and discovered rebar and other materials had been sold for scrap at H & S Recycling. Investigators contacted the company’s regional office and determined that no one had permission to sell any materials that were the property of the company.
Investigators obtained arrest warrants for felony theft by taking for two (2) men in connection with the case. One local man, Scottie Harrell (age 43), of Eastman, was arrested on December 22. An arrest warrant was issued for Jackie Gerald Godwin (age 31), of Worth County. As of today, Godwin has not been taken into custody by Worth County authorities.
Dodge County sheriff’s deputies arrested two (2) men on Tuesday morning in the process of allegedly attempting to steal scrap metal near Chester Apartments inside the City of Chester. Deputies arrested Lemakife Allen (age 21), and Kendrick Paris (age 19), both of Chester. Both have been charged with criminal trespass in connection with the case.
Investigators arrested Glendale Dollar (age 48), of Eastman, on felony theft by taking charges earlier in the week. Dollar is alleged to have stolen a quantity of jewelry from a residence located on the Rocky Springs Road while employed by the residents.
Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by United States Marshalls last Tuesday, December 28 in attempting to locate an absconded sex offender. Officials began following up on several leads and interviewing family along with last known neighbors. A while later, the subject the officials were looking for called the jail and turned himself in to authorities. Matthew Powell (age 23), has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
