A Dodge County road crew worker called 911 last Wednesday afternoon, December 15, to report several suspicious people on the dirt portion of Orphans Cemetery Road.
The worker reported seeing two men walking down the dirt road and a third man sitting in a van parked at a rural church.
The report led to deputies discovering a burglary in progress at a residence and barn in the area.
Law enforcement officials arrested three (3) Cochran men involved in the incident.
Sheriff’s investigators have tied the men to at least five (5) burglaries and thefts in Dodge County, including residences, barns and properties on Fairhaven Church Road, Friendship Baptist Church Road and Studstill Road.
Investigators have charged Laffelis Young (age 36), Cedric Young (age 37), and Otis Bloodworth (age 43), with multiple counts of burglary and felony theft by taking. Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson stated that the arrests are a direct result of the cooperation between citizens and law enforcement. Hinson encourages people to report suspicious people, vehicles and/or activity to 911 or the sheriff’s office. Hinson said, “You never know when your call may lead to protecting property or the lives of yourself and your neighbors.”
Investigators have arrested two (2) Hawkinsville men in connection with a burglary on Grant Road in the Roddy area. Investigators have charged Timothy Phelps (age 29), and Jonathan Howard (age 30), with burglary in connection with the case.
Sheriff’s deputies have arrested and charged Matthew Valentino Hickman (age 23), with failure to register as a sex offender. Hickman allegedly registered at one address and moved without notifying the sheriff’s office. Deputies discovered the change of address upon doing a routine verification. Deputies secured an arrest warrant for Hickman. Hickman showed up at the sheriff’s office several weeks later to re-register and was taken into custody by deputies.
People have worked hard to get things of value they have and no one wants them stolen from them so it is a great thing for citizens to continue to report crime to law enforcement.
