The Indians punted on their next possession. The Irish took over their own 15 yard line and moved the ball to their 45, before Indian Leonard Floyd sacked the Irish quarterback, causing a fumble, which was recovered by the Indians at the Dublin 33. Five plays later, Burse ran the ball for a five-yard touchdown at the 11:12 mark of the second quarter. Evans’ point after touchdown (PAT) was good and Dodge led 14-7.
The teams exchanged punts on their next possessions before Dublin put together a long 13 play 81-yard drive to score their second touchdown and tie the game at 14-14 after the PAT was good with 2:25 left in the second quarter. Hogue set the Indians up in good field position as he returned the ensuing kickoff to the 50-yard line. From there, Burse ran the ball five times and moved Dodge to the 14-yard line. Two consecutive passes from Shawn Honeycutt to Hogue brought about another touchdown for Dodge with time running out in the first half. Hogue scored on a beautiful nine-yard pass from Honeycutt in the corner of the end zone as the Indians took a 21-14, after Evans’ extra point kick was good, into halftime.
The Indian defense came in the second half fired up as they held the Irish to three plays and out assisted by a huge quarterback sack for a loss by Marquis Gordon. Dodge County took over at the Dublin 27-yard line.
Great running by Hogue and Burse and great blocking by the offensive line moved Dodge down the field to the three-yard line. The Indians then fumbled the ball at the one-yard line, which stopped the Indians from going up by two touchdowns. Dublin recovered but was forced to punt three plays later. Hogue received the punt for the Indians and returned it for what looked like another touchdown for Dodge, but a penalty brought the Indians back to their own 48-yard line.
The Indians were forced into a punting situation, but the ball was snapped over the punter’s head and the Irish took over at the Indian 24 setting up an Irish touchdown as Dublin scored from there on a 24-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-20 with 3:41 left in third quarter, after the Irish missed the PAT.
The teams exchanged punts on their next drives, before the Indians started a drive at their own five yard line and moved to the Irish 40 yard line on 12 plays. Dodge faced a fourth and two from the Irish 38 to keep the drive going but failed to convert as they only gained one yard, giving the ball to the Irish at their own 37. Three plays later Dublin scored the go ahead touchdown and after the two-point conversion led 28-21 over the Indians with 2:54 left in the game. Dodge took their last possession of the game at their own 42 but could not move the ball on four plays and the Irish took over on downs and ran the clock out to break the Indians’ heart with a 21-28 victory.

Coach Lee Campbell commented on the game, “It was an exciting game to be a part of, I just hate we were on the losing end. I thought our guys gave a tremendous effort, the best since I have been here. Still making critical mistakes but we have really cut down on those. We are a couple of plays away from being 3-1. I just want us to keep improving every week and we are doing that. This is a very tough region and there are no weeks off. After two tough losses now we have to get up, dust off and travel to Augusta to take on an extremely fast and talented Laney team.”
Dodge County hits the road for a trip to Augusta on Friday, September 25 to take on the Laney Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.
