The Dodge County High Lady Indians split sub-region games with Toombs County and Vidalia last week. The Lady Indians also participated in a tournament held at Jeff Davis on Friday, September 11, 2009 and Saturday, September 12, 2009 and won two of five games to take fourth place in the tournament. The Lady Indians are now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the sub-region.
The Dodge County Lady Indians played host to Toombs County in a sub-region game on Tuesday, September 8 and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 7-0. The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fourth with two outs. Danielle Rogers delivered a two out two run single to give the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead. The Lady Indians added two more runs on a two run double by Blakelyn Bundick, making the score 4-0 in the fifth inning. Dodge scored three more times with an RBI sacrifice bunt by Adele Harrison in the sixth inning. With two outs, Callie Eckles came through with a two out two run single to cap off the scoring. Crystal Ward pitched an outstanding game, throwing a two hit shut-out, striking out seven with no walks.
Offensive leaders for Dodge against Toombs County were: Danielle Rogers was 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Bridgette Coleman was 2-for-3 with a run scored; Blakelyn Bundick was 2-for-4, with two RBIs and a double; Jaye Hilliard was 2-for-4 with two runs scored; Adele Harrison was 1-for-3 with an RBI; Ashton Holt was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a double; Tiffany Knowles was 1-for-3.
The Lady Indians were defeated by Vidalia by a score of 4-0 on Thursday, September 10. The Lady Indians had a bases loaded no outs situation in the bottom of the fourth inning and didn’t score. Vidalia scored all four runs in the fifth, three of which were unearned. Offensive leaders for Dodge against Vidalia were: Jaye Hilliard was 1-for-3; Caitlin Greer was 1-for-1; Danielle Rogers was 1-for-3.
Jeff Davis Tournament
The Lady Indians had a rematch with the Vidalia Lady Indians in the first game of the Jeff Davis Tournament on Friday, September 11. Dodge scored two runs in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead on Vidalia. The inning was capped off by an RBI triple by Tiffany Knowles. The Dodge Lady Indians left the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Dodge wasted other scoring chances that would cost them as they were defeated by a score of 3-2. Ashton Holt was the tough luck, losing pitcher. Tiffany Knowles was 1-for-2, with one run scored and an RBI triple. Ashton Holt was 1-for-1, with a double.
In game two against Worth County, the Lady Indians unfortunately continued to leave runners on base. At least one runner was stranded in every inning. Crystal Ward gave up four hits and one earned run to be the tough luck, losing pitcher. The final score was Worth 3, Dodge 0. Adele Harrison was 2-for-3. Caitlin Greer was 1-for-3. Callie Eckles was 1-for-2.
The Lady Indians came out on fire in the third game against Calvary Day, scoring six runs in the first inning on six hits. That inning was topped in the second inning with a 12 run inning that would see 17 girls bat to make the final score Dodge 18, Calvary Day 0. Ashton Holt was the winning pitcher. Top scorers for this game were: Adele Harrison was 3-for-3, with three runs scored and an RBI; Ashton Holt was 2-for 3, with three runs and three RBI including a double; Callie Eckles was 2-for-2, with two runs scored and an RBI; Blakelyn Bundick was 2-for-2, with three runs scored and an RBI; Bridgette Coleman was 2-for-2, with one run scored and two RBI; Tiffany Knowles was 1-for-2, with two runs scored; Caitlin Greer was 1-for-1, with one run scored and two RBI; Jaye Hilliard was 1-for-3 with one runs scored.
In game four against the Jeff David Lady Yellow Jackets, Jaye Hilliard led off with a single; one out later Adele Harrison had a bunt single, putting runners on second and third with one out. Unfortunately, two pop ups later, the Lady Indians failed to score. Jeff Davis scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Indians missed another chance in the third inning, stranding two more runners. Another run by Jeff Davis in the fourth inning and the sixth inning would close out the scoring. Final scoring was Jeff Davis 4, Dodge 0. Crystal Ward again pitched good enough to win but got the loss, giving up only two earned runs against a very good team. Offensive leaders for Dodge were Jaye Hilliard was 2-for-3; Ashton Holt was 1-for-3 with a double; Adele Harrison was 2-for-3; Danielle Rogers was 1-for-3 with a double.
The Lady Indians faced another good team, Brantley County, in the final game of the tournament. A bunt single by Jaye Hilliard and a throwing error gave the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth inning with one out. Daniel Rogers singled and stole second. Tiffany Knowles doubled to left to score Rogers. A bunt single by Brittany Sorrell moved Knowles to third where she scored on a passed ball, making the score 3-0, Dodge. Brantley County scored two runs in the seventh inning making the final score Dodge 3, Brantley 2. The winning pitcher was Ashton Holt. Offensive leaders for the Lady Indians were: Brittany Sorrell was 2-for-2; Tiffany Knowles was 1-for-2, with a run scored, an RBI and a double; Daniel Rogers was 1-for-2; Jaye Hilliard was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
The Lady Indians have three games on the road this week as they travel to East Laurens on Tuesday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m.; West Laurens on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00 p.m.; Dublin on Thursday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m.
They return home Tuesday, September 22 at 5:00 p.m. against Bleckley County.
