Around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, Dodge County Emergency Medical Services and the Eastman Fire Department along with deputies from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the Eastman-Dodge County Recreation Department to a child that collapsed while playing soccer.
The ten (10) year old male child had been playing in a soccer game for approximately ten (10) minutes. The child came to the sidelines and told his father that he could not catch his breath. The child then collapsed on the sideline.
A nurse attending the game began CPR immediately on the child. The child was transported to the Dodge County Hospital by EMS. The child was pronounced dead approximately an hour later at the hospital.
The child had no known prior medical conditions. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 as required by state law, according to Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith. Smith also stated that it may be three to four months before the results are known.
The boy, Randall Ikedionwu, was the son of Onochie and Shirley Ikedionwu.
