At 9:25 P.M. last night (Wednesday, September 8) the Chester Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a residence on Wynne Street (GA Hwy 257) in Chester. Firefighters discovered the charred body of a deceased elderly male at the residence.
Dodge County Sheriff’s Investigators and the State Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the fire and death. Law Enforcement Officials state that the preliminary investigation indicates that the fire appears to have started accidently. Officials are continuing to investigate. The body has been sent to the State Crime Lab. The Dodge County Coroner is not releasing the name of the deceased at this time pending positive identification by the State Crime Lab.
Officials were on the fire scene until after 1:00 A.M. this morning. Chester Firefighters were assisted by the Georgia Department of Corrections Fire Team from Dodge C.I. and the Roddy Volunteer Fire Department.
