The Dodge County Indian football team traveled to Toombs County this past Friday for a non-region match-up with the Bulldogs.

An Indian fumble in the first quarter that was recovered and returned for a touchdown and a late touchdown in the fourth quarter gave the Toombs County Bulldogs a 14-0 victory over the Indians.

The Dodge County defense played a great game as they allowed only the last quarter touchdown and kept the Indians in the game.

The Indians and Bulldogs exchanged punts on the first few possessions of the game before the Dodge County offense fumbled the ball on their 24-yard line on their third possession of the game.

The Toombs County defender picked the ball up and returned for a touchdown at 1:10 mark of the first quarter. The Bulldog PAT was good and Toombs led 7-0.

The rest of the first half and most of the second half turned into a defensive battle between the Indians and Bulldogs. The teams exchanged punts and turnovers. Then with 2:25 left in the game Toombs County broke a 27-yard touchdown run to put them up 14-0 after the PAT was good. Time ran out on the Indians on their last possession of the game.

Leaders on offense for the Indians were: Devon Simmons with 72 yards rushing on 15 attempts; D’Eric McNair completed three passes for 35 yards; Leonard Floyd caught two passes for 24 yards and Walt Turner caught one pass for 11 yards.

Leaders on defense for the Indians were: Leonard Floyd with five tackles and six assists; Kayton Johnson with three tackles and 13 assists; Vossie Gooch with three tackles and six assists; Marcus Brown with three tackles and five assists; Marquis Gordon with three tackles and three assists; Terrance Daniels with three tackles and two assists; Dana Northcutt with two tackles and one assist and one interception.
The Indians will open region 3AA play this week as they travel to Lucy Laney High School in Augusta on Friday, September 10. Kickoff in Augusta is set for 7:30 p.m.

Play hard boys. I find no fault in loving sports and enjoying winning. It just bothers me at how much money, politics, and guile goes into our county's athletics, particularly football, when some of our teachers' salaries are getting cut, our school system can't afford to provide all the necessary supplies for the kids, and teachers are left to flip the bill. We fire coaches and bribe, I mean hire, new ones just to try to improve our record, and in the end, it's not an improvement at all. It all just seems a little backwards.

Good luck boys against Lucy tomorrow night. Play some hard ball and let's get a win.

i agree,i think they invest too much in the coach that aint filling the job,they should have kept robinson
